We have received word that Robert Griffin III will be featured on the cover of NCAA Football 13.  There seems to be a focus on Heisman winners this year so this announcement shouldn’t shock anyone.  According to PastaPadre, RG3 will share the cover with a past Heisman trophy winner who will be decided in the same tournament style as the Madden 13 cover.

Beginning on March 12th fans will be able to vote for what former Heisman winner will share the cover with RG3 on Facebook. Barry Sanders, Desmond Howard, Marcus Allen, Doug Flutie, Eddie George, Herschel Walker, Charlie Ward, and Andre Ware will be the names to choose from.

There will be new rules for kickoffs next college football season and true to EA Sport’s slogan, “It’s in the Game” NCAA Football 13 will include those changes.  Ben Haumiller, producer for NCAA Football 13, confirmed these changes in an email to The Gaming Tailgate.  Below are the new kickoff rules straight from the NCAA press release.

The Playing Rules Oversight Panel (PROP) during its conference call on Tuesday approved moving the kickoff and touchback lines beginning with the 2012 football season.

Next fall, teams will kick off at the 35-yard line instead of the 30. Also, touchbacks on free kicks will be moved to the 25-yard line instead of the 20 to encourage more touchbacks. Touchbacks on other plays (for example, punts that go into the end zone, or fumbles that go out of the end zone) will remain at the 20-yard line.

What do you think about these new rule changes?  How will it impact your special teams strategy?

ncaa football 13 release date

After months of secrecy, EA Sports has announced the official release date for NCAA Football 13.  You will be able to get your copy of NCAA 13 on July 10th, 2012.  The demo for the NCAA Football games historically comes out about 3 weeks before the release date which means that we could be playing virtual football again as early as mid-June.

Last year’s NCAA Football 12 game came out on July 12th so this year’s release date is not out of the ordinary, however it is still news. There is still no other information concerning NCAA Football 13 available at this time.

If you prefer NFL Football you can find the Madden 13 release date here.

Now that football season has come to a close, passionate football fans really don’t have much to do outside of mock drafts, television re-runs, and of course football video games.  Last week EA Sports announced that their will be a 64 man tournament to decide the madden 13 cover athlete.  As we wait for that to kick off on March 7th, we turn to NCAA Football 13.  Below you will find our list of the 3 most likely cover athletes for NCAA 13 in no particular order.

1. Andrew Luck – His career at Stanford speaks for itself.  Most analysts agree that he is the most NFL ready quarterback to come out of college in the last 10 years.  He has the complete package and is a great spokesman for the game of football.  Look for him to be on the cover of a future Madden NFL game as well in a couple years.

2. Justin Blackmon – Anyone who watched Blackmon single handedly tear apart the Stanford defense in the Fiesta Bowl will know why we have Blackmon on our list.  Warren Moon describes him as Dez Bryant with a brain.  He is a physical nightmare to match up with and is the type of player that is lots of fun to play with in a video game.

3. Robert Griffin III – Imagine a young Michael Vick or Vince Young with no off-field issues and you have RG III.  He successfully turned around the program at Baylor from a joke to a national contender.  There is no better player to get people to go out to the stores and pick up a copy of NCAA Football 13 than him and EA Sports knows that.
