Defensive Run/Pass Commit in Madden 13

Madden 13 will have a defensive commit system.  Many of you may remember something similiar from past NCAA Football games.  You can run commit to the right, left, up the middle, or commit to a pass.  This is great to combat the people who run the same play over and over again or the people that never call any run plays.

However, the bad news is that the defense still grossly overcommits.  If you run commit to the right, your entire defense will pretty much forget the play that was called and just sprint to the right allowing easy touchdowns if you guess wrong.  Even if you guess correctly, your opponent can still have their running back cutback and again you are out of luck.

While the idea of the feature is good, hopefully it can be improved via a patch or come Madden 14.  Let us know your thoughts on the run/pass commit system in Madden NFL 13 in the comments section.

New Hot Routes in Madden 13

madden nfl 13 new hot routes

Shopmaster over at MyMaddenPad.com has been gathering some fantastic information from the EA Sports developers live at E3.  Today he confirmed that their will be plenty of brand new hot routes making their way into Madden 13.

Those hot routes include running back swing routes, running back wheel routes, block and release routes (aka the blue routes), and whip routes.  The standard hot routes that we have been forced to play with for years got old very quickly and many of them were never realistic to begin with.  When have you ever seen a running back run a fade route in the middle of the field?

With the addition of the brand new physics engine, the ability to disguise defensive coverages, and now brand new hot routes, Madden 13 will feel like a brand new game for the first time since it moved to next gen consoles.  This is absolutely something to be excited for.

Note: The Madden 13 team ratings have come out.  If you haven’t already seen them, they can be found by following this link.

Madden 13 Team Ratings From E3

madden nfl 13 overall team ratings

Madden 13 was on full display at E3 in Los Angeles with lots of exciting news coming out each day.  Today the guys over at Operation Sports put together an image with all 32 teams’ overall ratings in this year’s game.  We put that data into a list that you can copy and paste or share with your friends, we just ask that you link back to this article.  Please keep in mind these ratings could change between now and late August but based on the playable Madden NFL 13 game at E3 these team ratings are accurate.

Every year the NCAA Football franchise seems to keep raising team ratings while Madden seems to lower them.  This year there are 5 teams in NCAA Football 13 with 99 overall ratings.  The Packers and the Patriots are the top teams in the game right now at 86 overall.  The Colts are the worst rated team at 66 overall.

Colts vs. Redskins Gameplay (Andrew Luck vs. RG III)

For the first time ever, we have a look at RG III and Andrew Luck in Madden 13.  The top 2 draft picks battle it out in this video from EA Sports at E3.  This time we have over 10 minutes of raw gameplay.

The first thing that jumped out at me was the announcing still being not completely realistic.  In the pre-game they talk about a shutdown cornerback going up against a star wide receiver.  Everyone knows if and when the Colts and the Redskins meet the story that they will be talking about is Robert Griffin III vs. Andrew Luck.

Check out the video below.  Let us know what you think in the comment section or in our madden forum.

E3 Footage 49ers v. Seahawks

More footage of Madden 13 came out from E3 today which gives us 9 minutes of HD gameplay. Even though the Seahawks vs. the 49ers isn’t exactly a marquee matchup it still gives us a look at what to expect this August.

Make sure to take a look at the new team introductions and listen to the new commentary of Phil Simms and Jim Nantz.

Madden 13 will be released August 28th, 2012.

Madden 13 will feature a new physics system titled the, “Infinity Engine.”  Upon first look, it is obvious that the realism level has been increased significantly this year.  When defensive backs go to contest a past, there will be actual body contact and both players will react like it.

The days of defensive backs merging into an offensive player’s body are over.  The same idea applies to the running game.  You can’t just run through your offensive line at full speed anymore.  If your running back’s foot happens to hit someone’s leg, he will react by stumbling or falling down instead of just going right through them like in Madden NFL 12.
