NCAA Football 13 Former Heisman Cover Voting Begins

ncaa football 13 heisman trophy tournament

Robert Griffin III was announced a few weeks ago as the cover athlete for NCAA Football 13 but many people noticed that there was a spot for a second person on the cover.  That second person will be a former Heisman trophy winner which fans will be able to choose.

EA Sports has set up an 8 man tournament of those Heisman winners with first round matchups of Barry Sanders vs. Andre Ware, Eddie George vs. Desmond Howard, Marcus Allen vs. Herschel Walker, and Doug Flutie vs. Charlie Ward.  The voting starts today at on the EA Sports Facebook page app.  Each round will last 7 days with the winner being revealed in 3 weeks.

EA Sports has transitioned their website from NCAA Football 12 to NCAA Football 13 signaling a focus shift onto this year’s game.  The only news up on it so far is that Robert Griffin III will be featured on the cover and he will share it with a former Heisman trophy winner who will be decided in a tournament style vote starting on March 12th.

It is worth noting (although in all likelyhood just an error) that the title of their new website is “NCAA Football 13 | In Stores Now.”  The NCAA Football 13 release date was announced for July 10th.  You can check out the official NCAA Football 13 website at http://www.ea.com/ncaa-football.

ncaa 13 kickoff rule change

There will be new rules for kickoffs next college football season and true to EA Sport’s slogan, “It’s in the Game” NCAA Football 13 will include those changes.  Ben Haumiller, producer for NCAA Football 13, confirmed these changes in an email to The Gaming Tailgate.  Below are the new kickoff rules straight from the NCAA press release.

The Playing Rules Oversight Panel (PROP) during its conference call on Tuesday approved moving the kickoff and touchback lines beginning with the 2012 football season.

Next fall, teams will kick off at the 35-yard line instead of the 30. Also, touchbacks on free kicks will be moved to the 25-yard line instead of the 20 to encourage more touchbacks. Touchbacks on other plays (for example, punts that go into the end zone, or fumbles that go out of the end zone) will remain at the 20-yard line.

What do you think about these new rule changes?  How will it impact your special teams strategy?

NCAA Football 13 Release Date

After months of secrecy, EA Sports has announced the official release date for NCAA Football 13.  You will be able to get your copy of NCAA 13 on July 10th, 2012.  The demo for the NCAA Football games historically comes out about 3 weeks before the release date which means that we could be playing virtual football again as early as mid-June.

Last year’s NCAA Football 12 game came out on July 12th so this year’s release date is not out of the ordinary, however it is still news. There is still no other information concerning NCAA Football 13 available at this time.

If you prefer NFL Football you can find the Madden 13 release date here.
